In 2004, Sally shares briefly about the making of her painting of Aslan:

Prints of this painting are in homes, hospitals, and prisons around the world. The original painting by Sally (Brestin) Hale is now a part of the permanent collection at the Marion Wade Center at Wheaton College. This museum honors 7 English authors including C. S. Lewis, the author who created Aslan in his “Chronicles of Narnia”. Sally spoke recently at the Wade Center on how the painting came to be. They say it is one of their most watched videos.

Sally explains how God led her to paint this miraculous work of a lion that is “not safe,” but is good, based on this passage from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis.

“Is he a man?” asked Lucy.

“Aslan a man!” said Mr. Beaver sternly. “Certainly not! I tell you he is the King of the wood and the son of the great Emperor-beyond-the-sea. Don’t you know who is the King of Beasts? Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the great Lion.”

“Oooh,” said Susan, “I’d thought he was a man. Is he – quite safe?”

…”Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
